Krk is often named „Golden island“ thanks to all its riches. Krk’s „riches“ are not in money or precious metals, but rather in the fact that the island has always been able to supply itself: the sea is rich in fish and shellfish, the sheep in the Interior of the island “produce” excellent cheese, Krk has its own oil (namely that of olive) and what is not found on any other Adriatic island – drinking water in a lake in the centre of the island. Later they called Krk also golden, because in Njivice, Malinska or Baška, once fishermens’ villages – the tourism bloomed.
