Make a gourmet tour in the region of Kvarner bay: along the coast, on the islands and through the mountain region of Gorski kotar. Coastal cuisine, thanks to its marine and Mediterranean influence is based on fish, shellfish, crabs, also on lamb, pasta, mediterranean fruit and vegetables, spices, olives and olive oil, chestnuts, while the cuisine of Gorski kotar is based on venison, milk, sour cream, cheese, meat and mushrooms, frogs, sweet water fish, vegetables, specially potatos and cabbage, forest fruit as well as strong drinks, spirits, juniper and honey liquers.
Arrival to Opatija. Accommodation in apartments or hotel, welcome drink and dinner.
After beakfast a guided sightseeing of Opatija. Afterwards a bus ride to Mošćenice, a medieval town situated on a hill overlooking a fishermen’s village of Mošćenička Draga (very beautiful beach). Tour of this small town followed by a visit to the Istrian museum within which is also an old olive oil mill. For lunch we recommend gratinated scallops, Zeus faber soup, pasta with mussels in one of excelent fish restaurants in Opatija or Volosko.
KRK – KOŠLJUN
After breakfast a whole day excursion to the island Krk. After guided sightseeing of the town Krk we drive to Vrbnik, a small town built high on the steep rocks surrounded by winyards where a typical sort Žlahtina is grown. Zlatna Žlahtina. In a typical village in on Krk you will have the opportunity of participating in a culinary course. Learn how to make „Šurlice“, special sort of local pasta, which you will than try for lunch with goulash.
Drive to island Cres, an island rich with natural beauties. Sightseeing of the towns Cres and Osor. During today’s excursion you will have the opportunity to taste ham dried on the salty sea air and sheep cheese. We also recommend lamb baked in a special special stove in the ashes.
An excursion to the „green heart“ of Croatia, mountain region coverd evergreen forest. The cuisine of Gorski kotar is a completly different experience. We recommend lamb or mutton backed on a spike over open fire, venison, boar or bear ham, fried frog legs, snails with mushrooms, šuljki (local pasta) with vernison goulash and cranberries…
PLITVICE LAKES NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast depart for Plitvice Lakes, Croatia’s largest national park. One of the most beautiful natural sights in Europe, and a UNESCO World Natural Heritage sight. Explore one below another sixteen beautiful lakes of crystal blue-green color that lie in a valley between high forested mountains. Enjoy the exceptional beauty of the lakes and waterfalls, rich plant and animal life, contrasting colors, forests and the pure mountain air. Later this afternoon return to Novalja. For lunch we recommend grilled trout.
Today we enjoy the panoramic boat ride along the Opatijia riviera. From Opatija we go to Lovran. In one of many fish restaurants we recommend you try brodetto with polanta after local recipe or grilled shrimps and for desert kroštule mit Mandeln, smokvenjak from dired figs and nuts, cake with Lovran cherries or chestnuts.
NOVALJA After breakfast the trip home starts. On the way we recommend a visit to the Postojna cave.
